Setting New Year’s Resolutions for You and Your Family

Can you believe the year is almost over? 2021 certainly had its ups and downs, but I am so grateful for every moment with this amazing village. But don’t get me wrong: I’m also ready to take on 2022!

Can you believe the year is almost over? 2021 certainly had its ups and downs, but I am so grateful for every moment with this amazing village. But don’t get me wrong: I’m also ready to take on 2022!

The New Year gives us the perfect opportunity to look back on the past 365 days and think of how we can be our best selves in the next year. While it’s important that we set personal goals, I always encourage my mom-friends to also start thinking about New Year’s resolutions as a family!

Whether it’s putting down the devices for dinner, spending quality time with your village, or getting more active, there are so many simple, fantastic ways to let more love into your life next year. Plus, when you make goals together, it’s easier to succeed. Try these New Year’s resolutions for the whole family to start 2022 off right!

Start A Family Gratitude Journal

I love using a gratitude journal to help me reflect and gain perspective on all the good in my life. I always suggest it to friends who want ways to bond with their family, because creating one is a fun and super simple way for everyone! All you need is a notebook and something to write with — so simple, right? The idea is for each family member to provide examples of things they’re grateful for, and for the family to discuss and interact. The note-taker will write down who said what, and in the end, you’ll have a wonderful list of things that makes your family happy, while your little ones learn more about gratitude.

Spend More Technology-Free Time Together

You all know how I feel about the importance of maintaining a balance between screen time and real-world time. In the digital age, it’s virtually impossible to get kiddos to totally avoid tech. Heck, even a lot of us adults can’t seem to stay off our smartphones! A goal every family should have in 2022 is to be more in the moment, and less on the internet. Designate a phone basket to be used during meals, or choose activities like going to the zoo instead of watching a movie. Lead by example in showing that the devices can wait. Plus, everyone will love spending quality time with each other!

Set Aside Time for Your Village

We already know how important your village is, and we should show them how much they mean to us. Encourage everyone in your family to spend more time with people in your village in the new year. Maybe it’s going out for monthly dinners, having a movie night or simply spending time catching up. No matter how you choose to spend time with your village, they will feel so grateful and blessed to have quality time with you. And it teaches your little ones how to connect with their village!

Prioritize Self-Care

Yes, everyone needs self-care, especially with the new year almost here! After all the craziness of the holiday season, a new year gives us a chance to slow down and treat ourselves to self-care. In 2022, I challenge you to prioritize your well-being and focus on taking care of yourself. We all know you can’t pour from an empty cup, so be sure to take time to relax and recharge your batteries. Even if it’s just once a week, find time where you can take a bubble bath, enjoy the quiet or get back into one of your hobbies you dropped. You’ll be amazed by how much better you feel!

My Resolutions

Ok, I had to include a few of my goals for the new year! You know how much I love connecting with my village, and I want to continue that in the new year. One of my resolutions is to spend more one-on-one time with my cousins and extended family. I have such a big family and I cherish the moments we spend together, so why not make even more time for them?

If you know me, you also know how much I love handwritten notes and letters. One of my resolutions for 2022 is to send thoughtful notes to people in my village who need extra support. There’s nothing like receiving a handwritten note, and I want everyone in my village to know how grateful I am for them!

It wouldn’t be a resolutions list without something active! I already try to exercise when I can, but my goal for 2022 is to walk four days a week. I don’t know about you, but I always feel my best when I get my steps in and I want to feel good in the new year!

What are some resolutions you and your family have set for 2022? Send me a DM @florenceann.romano. Hope you gals have a very Happy New Year!
