Who said Valentine's Day was just for couples? While I've got nothing against romantic meals, let's not forget all the other beautiful aspects of love this holiday. Every Valentine's Day, I like to take a few moments to show gratitude to my friends and family. Plus, Valentine's Day is an excellent excuse for mommas to give their cutie-pie cupids some extra smooches!

Since this Valentine's Day may be a bit distant, I thought it'd be a good idea to share a few heart-themed crafts to beautify your home and keep the kiddos occupied. Please keep reading to find a few of my favorite Valentine's Day activities for families.

Five Fun At-Home Valentine's Day Ideas for Kids

Forget Leftovers – Use Your Mason Jars for Marvelous Flower Displays!

Mason jars are way more than just food storage containers. These old canning jars have gained some nostalgic notoriety in the home décor space. From holding pink-colored candies to showcasing fabulous flowers, there are plenty of ways you could put these affordable jars to good use this Valentine's Day.

If you need extra inspiration, I'd recommend scrolling through the dazzling pics on this Mason jar list. There are endless possibilities for transforming your Mason jars into marvelous décor items. Whether you want to make a DIY candle holder or add a few tasty Hershey kisses, it’s time to get creative with these versatile jars.

Make a Few Heartfelt Friendship Stones

Although we often focus on romantic love, I believe Valentine's Day is a beautiful opportunity to show our friends appreciation. As I've said in previous posts, practicing gratitude has so many positive effects both for you and your village. Why not use Valentine's Day as an opportunity to show your kiddos just how powerful random acts of kindness can be!

One beautiful way to spread love this Valentines' Day is to make a heartfelt craft like a friendship rock. Let your little one dip a finger in red acrylic paint and create a heart pattern on your painting rock. After the paint settles, add some personality to your heart with a black sharpie. I'm sure these cute DIY gifts will brighten anyone's Valentine's Day celebration.

I "Heart" Reading With Origami Bookmarks!

If you've read some of my previous blogs, you know how big I am on books. It’s never too early to introduce your kiddos to the wonders of reading. So, when I saw these beautiful heart-shaped bookmarks online, I thought it'd be a great way to gently encourage your little ones to develop a passion for the page.

OK, I'll admit, it does require a bit of patience to make these beautiful bookmarks. However, even if you’re not an origami mommy, you'll probably have no issues mastering these steps with a little practice.

For a smooth teaching experience, please perfect your heart-shaped origami strategy before introducing it to your little one. That way, you'll know exactly how to (gently!) steer your kiddo to crafting success.

Save a Few Sugar Hearts for This "Sweet" Photo Frame

Along with Halloween, Valentine's Day must be every dentist's worst nightmare! I don't know about you, but it's way too easy to get addicted to all those sweet candy hearts.

If you want to minimize the risk of cavities this year, here's a fantastic solution: use your sugar hearts as a decoration on picture frames! Simply stick all of those conversation hearts around your photo frame's sides with a hot glue gun. Of course, don't forget to have your little one add some glitter dust for a fab finishing touch!

Find out how to make this candy heart frame like a pro in this post.

As Sweet As Honey – Make a Valentine's Bee Decoration

Of all these Valentine's craft ideas, I'm confident this Valentine's Bee is the most buzzworthy! Honestly, I can't think of any decoration that's cuter than a bumblebee holding a heart that reads: "Bee Mine."

Even better, you probably have everything you need to make this project in your home. For instance, you can use a toilet paper roll to make the bumble bee's body. Let your kiddo color this roll with yellow paint as you safely cut out the stripes, wings, and eyes with colored paper.

For the finishing touches, use a black pipe cleaner to create antennae, and cut out the red heart with the cute "Bee Mine" message. Once the glue settles, you could place your Valentine's bee on the dining room table, or let your little ones have fun flying around with their new DIY toy!

Wishing You and Your Village a Lovely Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to spread some love all around your village. You'd be surprised how small gestures of kindness can have huge ripple effects in your community. Whether you gift one of these crafts or simply call a close friend, I'm sure your loved ones will appreciate your generosity.

So, how are you planning to spend Valentine's Day with your kiddos? I'd love to hear any genius craft ideas you have in mind. Please feel free to send me a DM @windycitynanny to share your fun Valentine’s Day ideas! XOXO
